CNU's Moog Named Defensive Player of the Year
NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- Christopher Newport University's Evan Moog was named the football defensive Player of the Year Wednesday by the Hampton Roads Sports Commission. The announcement was made at a banquet at the Newport News Marriott at City Center Wednesday night.

Moog, a junior linebacker from Williamsburg, led the CNU defense last fall with 104 tackles and also contributed a forced fumble, fumble recovery, and interception. Moog was a first-team All-Conference selection in the USA South Athletic Conference and was named the state's Defensive Player of the Year by the Virginia Sports Information Directors.

Moog is a Canon Honors Scholar at CNU and also in the President's Leadership Program. He studied last summer at the University of Oxford in England and was an academic All-Region selection. Moog has been a USA South Academic Honor Roll member every semester of his college career.

The selection of Moog was made over nominees from William & Mary, Hampton, Old Dominion, Norfolk State, Virginia Wesleyan, and the Apprentice School. Old Dominion quarterback Taylor Heinicke was selected the football Offensive Player of the Year.

Moog and the Christopher Newport football squad begin the 13th season of CNU action on Saturday, September 7th at Salisbury University. The Captains will open at home on Saturday, September 14th, at 7 p.m. vs. Hampden-Sydney at POMOCO Stadium.
