Local HU, NSU Athletes Honored at Sports Banquet

     Hampton University senior forward Keiara Avant and NSU junior guard Pendarvis Williams were honored on Wednesday (April 17) by the Hampton Roads Sports Commission as the Offensive Player of the Year in women’s and men’s basketball in Hampton Roads during the Celebration of College Athletics Awards Dinner. The event was held at the Marriot City Center in Newport News.  

     Avant, a Chesapeake native, averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds per game and led the HU Lady Pirates to a 28-6 record and their fourth-consecutive MEAC championship.  She was also named the MEAC Player of the Year.  

     Norfolk State junior guard Pendarvis Williams averaged 14 points per game and led NSU to a 16-0 MEAC regular season record.  NSU interim head coach Robert Jones accepted for Williams who was in class during the awards.
