LaShawn Merritt breezes into 400 semifinals

Portsmouth’s LaShawn Merritt posted the fastest qualifying time in Sunday’s 400-meter heats to reach Monday’s semifinals.
Merritt, the 2008 Olympic gold medalist and 2009 world champion, clocked in at 44.92 seconds.
Also, former Hampton University runner Francena McCorory ran a personal best of 49.86 to win her heat in the women’s 400 meters and qualify for today’s finals.
