Hampton Roads Sports Commission to host college football awards dinner on Jan. 31

The Hampton Roads Sports Commission will host a Celebration of College Football Awards Dinner from 6-8:30 p.m. Jan. 31 at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside. The dinner, which the commission plans to make an annual event, will recognize programs at Christopher Newport, William and Mary, Hampton, Norfolk State, Old Dominion and Apprentice School.

The commission will present Player of the Year awards in offense and defense at the dinner.

Defensive nominees are: Blake Penix (Apprentice), B.W. Webb (W&M), Corwin Hammond (NSU), Michael King (CNU), Delbert Tyler (HU) and Ronnie Cameron (ODU).

Offensive nominees are: Larry Peterson (Apprentice), Jonathan Grimes (W&M), Chris Walley (NSU), J.T. Crews (CNU), David Legree (HU) and Taylor Heinicke (ODU).

Former NFL coach Bobbby Ross is slated to be the keynote speaker. Tickets are $50. For reservations, visit HamptonRoadsSports.org.
