Nathan Switzer of Newport News, one of the top young shooters in the country, capped his summer season by picking up another bronze medal at a national event -- this time at the USA Shooting Progressive Position Pistol Championships July 7-8 in Anniston, Ala.
Earlier this summer, the 20-year-old marksman won a bronze medal in Junior Men's Sport Pistol and placed sixth in Junior Men's Air Pistol at the Olympic Trials in Ft. Benning, Ga.
Switzer's latest showing came in the presence of USA Shooting national coaches and team members. They were there to observe and encourage the young competitors.
Switzer shot a two-day total of 733 out of a possible 800. He had a score of 96.1 out of 109 in the final.
In the sport pistol competition at the Olympic Trials, he posted a score of 1,099 out of 1,200.
