Lady Pirates play Duke first round

Only one local college basketball team is headed to the NCAA basketball tournament, and it appears that once again, Hampton's Lady Pirates have gotten the short end of the stick by the selection committee.

The Hampton University women's basketball team has a pretty nice resume with four straight MEAC tournament titles. This year's team won 28 games and is riding a 19-game winning streak.  They haven't lost a game since last year.

They won every conference game this season, were unbeaten at home, and had nonconference wins over Mississippi State, Southern Miss, LSU (as a No. 6 seed and Boston College; Hampton lost to DePaul by one point, and DePaul is a No. 10 seed).

Monday, the NCAA selection committee made them a No. 15 seed and are sending them to Durham, N.C. to play at Duke, the fifth ranked team in the nation.
