"Bench the Stigma" Forum Continues Focus on Mental Health in Youth Sports
Virtual Forum Featured Area Clinical Professionals, Coaches and Athletes

NORFOLK, Va. (March 25, 2021) – The Hampton Roads Sports Commission, The Virginia Sports Hall of Fame and The Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters continued their focus on coaching positive mental health in youth sports recently with a webinar titled “Bench the Stigma.”

The virtual forum featured mental health professionals, a local student-athlete, and a youth sports coach discussing topics such as balancing mental wellness and performance and creating a culture of positive mental health within a sports organization. Panelists included:

  • Betsy Cutler, M. Ed., President and CEO, Cutler Wellness Programs
  • Dr. Gary Bennett, Ph.D., Associate Athletics Director/Sports Psychologist, Virginia Tech
  • Rennel Marshall, LCSW at CHKD, former collegiate football player and high school coach
  • Eli France, senior soccer player at Cox High School
