
Nick Walker (Kellam) led off with a home run and Connor Myers drove in three runs to lead Old Dominion to an 8-3 win and a sweep of Marshall in a Conference USA doubleheader.
Mike Perez had three RBIs in the opener as the Monarchs (31-20, 17-13) did all their scoring in the first inning in an easy 9-1 win.
With the sweep, ODU, which won 6-3 on Friday, moved into fourth place behind Rice (20-7), Alabama-Birmingham (19-8) and Southern Miss (17-10), and clinched a spot in the C-USA tournament beginning May 21 in Hattiesburg, Miss.
Left-hander Andy Roberts (4-3) went the distance in Sunday’s opener, holding Marshall (20-28, 10-16) to three hits.
Righty Victor Diaz (4-2) worked five innings in the second game, giving up three runs on four hits. The Monarchs took a 3-0 first-inning lead, then sealed it with four runs in the third after the Thundering Herd closed to 3-2.
ODU plays Tuesday at Virginia Military Institute.
