HRSC Defensive Player of the Year Jerome Couplin signs with the Detroit Lions

Just after the NFL draft concluded Saturday night, numerous reports trickled in about undrafted players on area teams reaching deals with NFL teams -- in effect, tryouts.

William and Mary safety Jerome Couplin III, who many observers believed could be drafted, signed with theDetroit Lions.

While Virginia Tech and Bethel High product James Gayle went to the Tennessee Titans, Hokies Tech receiverDJ Coles signed with the Oakland Raiders.

Another Hokie, defensive tackle Derrick Hopkins, went to Baltimore, where his teammates will include Ravensdraftee Brent Urban from U.Va.

Virginia's Jake Snyder, a defensive end, signed with Minnesota. While there, he will be reunited with a former Deep Run High teammate whom the Vikings drafted, ex-Hokies safety Antone Exum.

Justin Renfrow, a former U.Va. and Miami defensive lineman, went to the Arizona Cardinals. In practice, he could pursue quarterback Logan Thomas, a three-year starter for Virginia Tech.

Old Dominion offensive lineman DJ Morrell went to the Detroit Lions.

James Madison defender Jordan Stanton, who has played at linebacker and tackle, will try out with the Green Bay Packers. Another JMU player, offensive tackle Josh Wells, will try to impress the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Richmond Spiders defensive lineman Kerry Wynn signed with the New York Giants.
