On September 14, the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce and the Hampton Roads Sports Commission hosted an inaugural Sand Kickball Tournament. The event was held on the beach in front of the Ocean View Fishing Pier in Norfolk from 2-8pm. This unique recreational kickball tournament was played on the beach and was the first ever of its kind in the region.
Nearly 150 players on 12 teams from non-profit organizations, small, mid-size and large corporations competed in a high energy, double elimination sand kickball tournament. Participants enjoyed sunny weather, fun and competition. Players enjoyed snacks, drinks, as well as live entertainment by local rock band, Seven Ten Oil. The event concluded with an awards presentation and networking on the upper deck of the Ocean View Fishing Pier.
The Sheraton Waterside Norfolk team took home the first place Grand Sand Kickers trophy. Second place went to The Up Center, and the Chartway Federal Credit Union team finished third.
Due to the success of the tournament, the Chamber and Sports Commission plan to make this an annual event.
