Former University of Virginia and Tampa Bay Buccaneers standout Ronde Barber headlines the inductees in Portsmouth today and Saturday for the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame Weekend.
Barber, a three-time All-Pro cornerback who is the only player in NFL history with at least 40 interceptions and 20 sacks, will join his twin brother Tiki, a 2011 inductee, in the hall. The Barbers are the first brothers to be inducted.
Also in the 2014 class:
-- Wilson High and University of North Carolina graduate LaTasha Colander-Clark, a 2000 Olympic gold medalist in the 1,600-meter relay and two-time U.S. champion in the 400.
-- Former Old Dominion and WNBA star Ticha Penicheiro, who led the Lady Monarchs to the national championship game in 1997 and played 15 seasons in the WNBA.
-- Sean Casey, who won the NCAA batting title at the University of Richmond in 1995 and was selected to three all-star teams in a 12-year major league career.
-- Norfolk State athletic director Marty Miller, who won 718 games in 32 years as baseball coach before assuming his current role in 2005.
-- Former Emory & Henry football coach Lou Wacker, who had 17 consecutive winning seasons and won 164 games in 23 years with the Wasps.
-- Newport News Daily Press sports columnist David Teel, whose work has been honored nationally more than 50 times in a 30-year career.
